Routes draws your travelled paths with a coverage buffer. Heatmap shades how often you've been somewhere.
Plane flights
Segments faster than 200 mph aren't roads, so they're kept out of driven roads and out of your distance and area totals.
Buffer size
How wide the explored area around each road is drawn. The server computes each width once and keeps it.
Your roads are computed and cached on the server, so every device sees the same shapes and numbers. Return visits only process new GPS fixes.
Google Maps Timeline
Bring in the years before OwnTracks. In the Google Maps app open your profile → Your timeline → ⋯ → Location & privacy settings → Export Timeline data, then upload the JSON file here. Google Takeout's Records.json works too.
OwnTracks stays the source of truth: any day that has an OwnTracks fix ignores the Timeline. Speeds for imported points are estimated from the path only to recognise flights; the top-speed and altitude stats come from OwnTracks alone.

Create account
Password must be at least 12 characters with uppercase, lowercase, and a number.
Delete account
This permanently deletes your account and all of your location data. It cannot be undone.
Set up OwnTracks
- Download OwnTracks for iOS or OwnTracks for Android
- Open the app and tap the (i) button in the top left
- Tap Settings
- Change the mode from MQTT to HTTP
- Set UserID to your username
- Set Password to your password
- Set DeviceID to something memorable (e.g. "phone")
